The Importance of Blogs

SEO is a Major Component of Digital Marketing

If you are a business owner, chances are good that you have a website. Your website may be a simple, one-page number with just enough information to let potential customers know what you do, what you offer, and why you are the best choice for them. On the other hand, your website may be a behemoth, spanning multiple pages and showcasing dozens of different products and services. Whatever form your website takes, making sure that customers are able to find your website when they search for services that you provide on the internet is the most important aspect to your site’s success or failure.

Here at Riverworks Marketing, we have years of experience helping our clients maintain a strong online presence. We use multiple marketing techniques to accomplish this task and, in today’s post, we are going to cover one of our favorites–search engine optimization. Continue reading below to learn more.

Digital Marketing is Tricky Business

When it comes to online marketing techniques that are designed to put a business’s website in front of as many eyes as possible, there are two main strategies that are used.

When it comes to online marketing techniques that are designed to put a business’s website in front of as many eyes as possible, there are two main strategies that are used.

The first strategy and the one that most business owners are most familiar with involves using paid ads to ensure that a website is shown in the first few search results. These paid ads, distinguished from normal ads by their green coloring, are bid on by businesses based on certain keyword terms and search categories. While effective, paid ads have two major drawbacks.

First, they can become expensive. Depending on the competitiveness of the keyword (ie how many businesses want to show up for a particular keyword), running a paid advertising campaign can become expensive.

Second, there is no guarantee that people who click on a paid advertising link will actually convert into a paying customer, meaning that a company could be spending money for ads without ever actually receiving business.

Paired together, these two factors can make paid ads less than attractive to business owners who have a fixed budget on the amount that they can spend on online advertising. Luckily, this is where search engine optimizations come in.

While the website of a business may not show up in the top two results, a space largely reserved for paid ads, it will show up in the first few organic listings, or the listings that a search engine’s algorithm naturally feeds to browsers, if it has been optimized to tell Google that it is a relevant result for the keywords used.

The Keyword Reigns Supreme in SEO

Search engine optimization, or “SEO” as it is commonly abbreviated to, is the process by which a website uses link structure, title tag, and meta descriptions, and focused keywords to rise through the ranks of search listing organically. This means that while the website of a business may not show up in the top two results, a space largely reserved for paid ads, it will show up in the first few organic listings, or the listings that a search engine’s algorithm naturally feeds to browsers of the internet based on the search terms that they have entered into the query field.

With proper diligence and an understanding of the search terms that people most commonly use when looking for a certain product or service, a business owner can optimize their website to encourage a search engine to show them for specific search queries.
